Release of the Week_Burial – Truant

The distinct sound that Burial possesses hits one more time with their latest release, TRUANT off Hyperdub. The first album title track slips in with calm, meditative bass lines followed by ecstasy filled vocals that massage my heart. I needed a song to close my eyes to so I could feel the grey sky, immagine laying in bed and then the night hits and I’m in a dark room surrounded by people with their eyes closed as well as we move to the beats… ever so often a pause, we inhale and then begin again. When we turn on side 2 to “Rough Sleeper”, I’m awakening the next day. I can hear a church in the distance and something is moving me to look outside the window and all I see is Burial. So I get dressed, head down the stairs and out into the streets, music plays but only I can hear it as the hustle and bustle that once punctured my existence has faded away. This soulful, bass-hitting journey takes us to places we had forgotten how to get to and now that we have found them, we can exhale.
