Born in Germany, Vera spent most of her childhood surrounded by classical music and was influenced to study basic musical education, learning how to use various instruments, her love for music was intrinsic. As she entered her teenage years, her taste shifted towards hip hop and house music. Intrigued to know more, by 1993, Vera had become of age to finally hit the techno club scene in Frankfurt and she found exactly what she was looking for.
She began collecting mix-tapes, listening uncontrollably to selections from DJ sets and by now had graduated to purchasing vinyl of her own. She developed a preference for Chicago house, Detroit and the sounds of Maurizio, Studio 1, Thomas Brinkmann and the early Perlon and Playhouse releases and began mixing. She worked her way into being a regular guest at the legendary techno club, Omen and after 7 years, an obsession evolved into a craft. One of the first people to take serious notice of this young force to be reckoned with, was Roman Flügel of Alter Ego, who in 2003 invited her to play at Robert-Johnson, one of Europe’s most respected clubs, soon after inviting her to become a Resident there. In 2005 the promoter of Frankfurt’s House Club Monza, moved to Ibiza and began a weekly Monza Club Ibiza party on the island and invited Vera to what would be her first international residency. By 2006 she was now playing at some of the most successful clubs in Ibiza such as Space and DC10 and releasing her first mix compilation for Monza Ibiza. With all the buzz surrounding Vera on this lil island off of Spain, it was only a matter of time before the rest of Europe was listening and inviting her to play at clubs, including Panoramabar (Berlin), Goa (Rome), Tea-Bar (London), Moog (Barcelona), Zukunft (Zürich) and many more. That next year she released her first track, In the Nook, off of Spanish minimal label, Cyclical Tracks. Following that, she collaborated with Miss Fitz aka Maayan Nidam, under the name Mara Trax, together they produced two EPs in 2008, one off Cyclical Tracks and the other off of Oslo Records. Her collaborations continue with Federico Molinari with their EP, Love Letters From Oslo and finally in July of 2008, Vera released her first solo EP on Cargo Edition titled, All That Glitters.
Vera represents a cultivated and boundless sound, uniting classic house with new influences, and in this latest, she collaborates with none other than, Ricardo Villalobos for their EP titled, Veric, Assemble Music’s fourth release. It will contain two tracks: Take Me and Rambutan– Release date is not yet set but you can check out snippets here.
Stay tuned also for her upcoming performance at our own YAY party, in Varese Italy on April 19th 2013. We’re super excited and if you listen to this, you’ll understand why.
