Music for the Moon

Patron Saint of the Hummingbirds (PSH) is making music for environments. A collaboration with nature, this latest release of songs is in conversation with the Moon and it’s many phases. The album begins with a landing on the moon utilizing data sonification, a 7 second sample from a recording of Eta Carinae via the Chandra X-ray Center, Operated for NASA by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The intro fades into a tuning fork playing the healing sound of 128 hertz before transitioning into soft synths and live flute.  The 128 Hz frequency helps alleviate pain by increasing blood flow, delivering much-needed oxygen to painful areas, and flushing out toxins. This is quite literally healing music. The second track is titled “Call of the Apsáalooke”. The word Apsáalooke is the name given to the Crow by the Hidatsa tribe, a neighboring Siouan-speaking tribe. The name translates to “children of the large-beaked bird”. If you listen closely you can hear the calls of the “crow” in the background of the flute recording as they were cawing out the entire time. The Hidatsa tribe is a matrilineal society which means that lineage, inheritance, and social identity were traced through the mother’s side of the family. The Hidatsa worldview placed great emphasis on balance and harmony between the natural world and the community, and women’s roles as life-givers and nurturers were seen as sacred. PSH pays homage to the strength of women and their role in society and the environment with their music and by honoring this lineage. As the album continues into the “Full Moon in Aries”, shining light on the warrior sign and the groups zodiac. “Rebirth”, the only track on the album without live flute is a synth journey deeper into space, hitting on elements of Nu Jazz and Neo-Classical inspiration. Inspired by the recent bioluminescence that could be seen in the night’s ocean waves, PSH acknowledges the visibility of this magic under the new moon with the track “Bioluminescent Waves in a New Moon”. And closing the album with an Outro titled “The Gates are Open”, a reference to the passing of souls, the threshold, the final exit, honoring a dear friend and poet who recently passed. This is spirit music for the soul from the soul. Have a listen and download.
