Northern Purpose is excited to announce the launch of its first night up north!
After the success of the first year of parties in London and the great feedback from the ever growing podcast series, it was always the plan to set up a night much closer to home and 2013 is the perfect time. The destination is Leeds; being a place were people really know how to party, whilst at the same time possessing a sound understanding of house music.
To get them off the mark, they welcome back previous guests Smallpeople, alongside the UK based Juniper, to form a Smallville Records Showcase.
Smallpeople are Julius Steinhoff & Just von Ahlefeld aka Dionne. Together they’ve run the Smallville Record Store and Label, located in Hamburg since 2006. Like the record store, DJ-Sets from Smallpeople are focused on a wider range of music and can be quite diverse, mixing between Deep House, Detroit Techno and some Chicago flavours, but always with a warm, atmospheric groove. Smallpeople have released on labels such as Underground Quality, Laid and their own Smallville imprint. The Smallville label is without doubt one of the most consistent labels out there, with each release becoming a must-have record.
Juniper is the solo DJ moniker for Dan Mumberson, who hails from the North-East of England. Dan has been a key player in Manchester’s scene for the past decade, co-promoting and resident DJ of meandyou, which is one of the city’s premiere parties. As a producer, Dan teams up with friend Rueben Holt, and together as Juniper they have had some stellar releases. The ‘Theories EP’ on Underground Quality and the ‘We Met in Manchester EP’ on Smallville have been releases of the highest order.
The venue for the night is one that the boys have mulled over for a while, but now they have found the perfect setting for this party. Wharf Chambers is located on the ground floor of a Victorian former pork pie factory at 23-25 Wharf Street, LS2 7EQ, on the edge of The Calls near the back of the Corn Exchange – right in the heart of Leeds City Centre.
Doors open at 11pm and the fellas are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces from the Northern crew.
